On this Mother's Day, I am celebrating my little seedlings. In this picture are tomatoes, zinnias, stocks and sunflowers. I figure I am their surrogate mother! They are almost ready to be planted outside, I just have to harden them off. Instructions always say to place the plants outside for an hour or two the first day, and to increase the time by an hour or two every day for at least a week. Well that's hard to accomplish when you are away from home from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. every weekday. I wish I could train them to get themselves from the backyard back into the basement by themselves. Every year I do some half-ass hardening off, and the seedlings always seem to thrive. I guess they just want to grow up and be beautiful!
